Founding Backend Engineer

Salary: $150K – $200K + Equity
About the Role
An early-stage health technology startup is hiring a Founding Backend Engineer to build the core data platform powering a new generation of preventative healthcare tools.
You’ll design and own systems that ingest and unify complex health data — including wearables, medical records, and diagnostic outputs — into clean, queryable data models that power web, mobile, and AI-driven applications.
This is a high-ownership founding role where you’ll work closely with the founders to build the platform from the ground up in a HIPAA-regulated environment.
What You’ll Do
- Own the health data ingestion and processing layer, integrating APIs, medical records, wearable data, and other structured or semi-structured inputs
- Design and maintain backend APIs and services consumed by web and mobile applications as well as AI-driven systems
- Continue development of the existing Python backend application, or guide architectural changes if a different approach proves more effective
- Build reliable and scalable data pipelines and backend services
- Contribute to infrastructure decisions around deployment, observability, and security when needed
- Work closely with the founding team to shape product architecture and technical direction
Ideal Background
- 2–5 years of software engineering experience
- Strong backend development experience with Python
- Experience building APIs and backend services
- Experience working with data pipelines or complex data systems
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving early-stage startup environment
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to ship production systems

Compensation
- Base salary: $150K – $200K depending on experience
