Remote (US) | $200K–$300K + Equity

Important: This is a Hands-On Builder Role

This is not a traditional management Head of Engineering role. This is a highly hands-on technical ownership position.

We are specifically looking for someone who has been a first or second engineering hire at an early-stage startup and has owned production systems end-to-end.

This role is roughly 70–80% hands-on engineering.

Strong fits typically:

  • Early engineer at a 10–75 person startup
  • Senior/Staff engineer ready for full product ownership
  • Former founding engineer or startup CTO
  • Tech lead from a product-focused startup

Not a fit if you:

  • Want primarily a management role
  • Only have large tech company experience
  • Focus on architecture but don't implement
  • Need highly structured environments

The Role

We’re hiring a Head of Engineering to own our production systems, feature delivery, and technical roadmap alongside our CTO and CPO.

You will take full technical ownership within 3–6 months. This is a player-coach role working with a small team while remaining deeply hands-on.

 

 

Tech Stack

TypeScript, React, Node.js, AWS, PostgreSQL/Aurora, DuckDB, ECS, CloudFront, GitHub Actions.

You do not need exact matches but must be comfortable owning a modern full-stack SaaS platform in production.
 

What You'll Do

  • Own production infrastructure and deployments
  • Build full-stack product features
  • Make architecture decisions
  • Improve CI/CD and reliability
  • Handle production incidents and scaling challenges
  • Partner with product and research teams on technical direction

Requirements

  • 7+ years full-stack engineering experience
  • Early-stage startup experience strongly preferred
  • Experience owning production systems end-to-end
  • Strong TypeScript or similar modern stack experience
  • Recent hands-on coding experience
  • Strong ownership mentality
