Full-Stack Engineer
Remote, U.S.
Base Salary: $175K–$225K + Equity
About the Company
We’re a profitable, fast-growing B2B SaaS company modernizing a highly manual, high-stakes workflow in construction finance. Our platform helps lenders, borrowers, and construction teams move capital faster, reduce risk, and keep projects moving through better draw management, inspections, communication, and workflow automation.
The company is small, product-driven, and already trusted by a meaningful share of the private lending market. We’re backed by strong proptech investors, but our growth has been largely organic and customer-driven. The team is intentionally lean, which means engineers have real ownership and direct influence on the product, architecture, and engineering culture.
About the Role
We’re hiring a pragmatic, T-shaped Full-Stack Engineer to help extend and improve a mature production platform used daily by real customers. This is not a greenfield-only role. You’ll be working on top of a real, six-year-old codebase that supports mission-critical construction lending workflows.
The right person has strong backend instincts, can work across the stack, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity. You should be able to reason through database design, API behavior, background jobs, migrations, performance tradeoffs, and user-facing product decisions without needing every detail handed to you in a ticket.
This is a fully remote team that relies heavily on fast, clear verbal communication, so the ability to think out loud, ask good questions, and explain tradeoffs is critical.
What You’ll Do
- Collaboratively define, scope, and architect new platform capabilities
- Extend and improve a mature Rails-based platform in a secure, scalable, and pragmatic way
- Build new features involving payments, integrations, workflows, inspections, and customer-facing tools
- Work directly with databases, including SQL, schema design, migrations, and query optimization
- Design and improve APIs and payloads used across web and mobile experiences
- Develop and maintain web features using React, TypeScript, Hotwire, Tailwind, and related tools
- Support mobile-facing functionality and potentially contribute to React Native work
- Manage background processing, job queues, and system reliability using tools such as Sidekiq or similar
- Identify legacy areas that need improvement and propose practical migration paths
- Help establish engineering culture, conventions, and development practices as the team scales
- Communicate proactively in a fast-moving, fully remote environment
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of professional full-stack or backend-leaning engineering experience
- Flexible for exceptional candidates with 4–5 years
- Experience shipping and maintaining production applications used by real customers
- Strong backend depth across API design, data modeling, background jobs, and migrations
- Hands-on database experience, including SQL, schema design, and query optimization
- Comfort working in legacy systems and improving them incrementally
- Professional experience across multiple languages, frameworks, or parts of the stack
- Experience with some combination of React, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Tailwind, Hotwire, React Native, or similar technologies
- Ability to reason through ambiguous engineering problems and explain tradeoffs clearly
- Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills in a remote environment
- Curiosity about business domains outside your own expertise
Nice to Have
- Experience in construction tech, proptech, fintech, lending, payments, inspections, field services, or regulated workflows
- Experience building for non-technical or mobile-first users
- Background with Sidekiq or other background job / queuing systems
- Experience improving older codebases while balancing product, customer, and business constraints
- Exposure to both startup environments and more mature engineering practices
Why Join
- Real-world impact: The platform directly helps construction capital move faster, which can reduce costly delays for borrowers and help more housing get built.
- Profitable and growing: The company is already profitable and growing organically, without depending on unsustainable burn.
- Small team, big ownership: You’ll work directly with founders and senior engineers on meaningful technical and product decisions.
- Interesting technical problems: This is complex B2B SaaS involving real users, payments, data, legacy systems, mobile workflows, and practical infrastructure tradeoffs.
- No performative interview process: The technical process is based on real engineering discussion, not LeetCode-style puzzles.
