  • US, Remote

Senior Software Engineer — AI / Fintech
Remote | $185,000–$225,000 base + equity | Full-time

An early-stage fintech startup is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build an AI-powered tax platform that combines automation with licensed CPA oversight.

You’ll join a small engineering team and own production features from backend data models and services through the user interface. This is a hands-on role with meaningful input into architecture, product decisions, and how the team builds.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build, and operate full-stack features using TypeScript, Node.js, and React or Next.js.
  • Develop backend services, data pipelines, and event-driven workflows.
  • Partner with AI engineers to turn agent workflows into reliable, intuitive product experiences.
  • Build auditability, access controls, and protection for sensitive financial data into the product.
  • Use AI coding tools daily and help shape engineering practices.
  • Work through ambiguous requirements, ship improvements, and learn from customer feedback.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience after completing your education.
  • A degree in computer science or a related STEM field.
  • Production TypeScript experience across Node.js backends and React or Next.js frontends.
  • Demonstrated ownership of shipped full-stack features, including ongoing operation and maintenance.
  • Experience at an early-stage startup or a startup-like team within a larger company.
  • Experience building payments, billing, ledger, or risk systems in fintech.
  • Experience with Python services, Kafka or other event-driven pipelines, and distributed systems.
  • Strong product judgment and comfort owning work with minimal guidance.

Experience with sensitive financial data, security, compliance, and auditability is a plus.

Compensation and location

  • $185,000–$225,000 base salary plus equity.
  • Remote for candidates based in New York, Chicago, or the US Pacific Time zone.
  • Quarterly team offsites, with optional collaboration in New York and Chicago.
  • Full-time employment; this is not a contract opportunity.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available.

If you enjoy owning product features end to end and building on a small team, we’d welcome a conversation.
